The ten image edits can be shown digitally, in the combination shown above, with a slightly narrower black spacing between all photos; as a singular, static montage on a black 16:9 flat screen with a diagonal of at least 21′′, so that a black horizontal stripe is created above and below.
As an analog wall installation, the photo series is hung in the same combination as described above, in two rows, in the form of mat 1c prints on aluminium dibond.
The photographs were taken in 2021 as part of a photographic project in which the artist Alexandra Reill explores the development of her personality in the form of a continuous, chronological self-documentation between autumn 2019 and spring 2022. As part of this work, all self-portraits included in the project were subjected to the same sequence of image editing.
The images contained in SP19-22-movements of skin I and II, respectively, emerged as independent photo series whose visual language is characterized by abstract and textured fields. Due to the serial character of the randomly created shots, the degree of abstraction of the textured close-ups of skin is further enhanced. Thus, the series SP19-22-movements of skin I and II form almost self-created rhythmic lines of a self-observing as well as abstracting perspective – a contemporary witness from the year 2021, which was created by chance recording and the effects of randomly set image editing methods, almost in the method of unconscious writing.
