ARTISTIC HEAD
ALEXANDRA REILL

Alexandra Reill lives and works in Vienna. She studies at the University of Vienna and graduates with a Dipl. Dolm. in Russian, English and German. In parallel, she studies at the Academy of Fine Arts [Prof. Josef Schulz, Textile Design]. For about a decade she works as a costume and stage designer for theatre, TV and cinema.

As a filmmaker / conceptual and video artist, she sees her works as cinematic and at the same time as artistic research in the context of media research / real-time / expanded cinema, staging / performance and the experimental use of [interactive] technologies. Mostly, her approaches are located in the communication and media arts; underpinned by scientific-theoretical research. Her atmospheric worlds are characterized by cinematic dramaturgies and associative formal languages, which she also emphazises in her discourse – in order to create cinematic dramaturgies in transdisciplinary works that can be sensitively, immersively experienced by recipients.

The artist’s works have been shown in an international context, including the Austrian Cultural Forum London, Berlinale / EFM, Chiangmai First New Media Art Festival, FILE – Electronic Language International Festival, free manifesta @Manifesta 4, International Short Film Week Regensburg, Künstlerhaus Wien, Hamburg Short Film Festival, MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Museum Belvedere 21, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Museum of London, Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Technisches Museum Wien / Österreichische Mediathek etc.
